The mission of The Warren-An Artist Habitat is to be part of the community it resides and to provide exhibition opportunities, networking, hangout space, performance space and a meeting space for artists. The Warren is a place where art and community come together with the hope of enriching each other.
The Warren is located near the busy intersection of Penn Avenue and 44th Avenue North with a spacious parking lot. A former garage, The Warren is an ideal place to have an artistic presence in the Northwest section of Minneapolis
The mission for The Warren is to develop a place for local artists to display their work, conduct educational meetings about their research, work and artistic techniques. In addition The Warren hopes to provide a supportive educational environment where local artists can practice their art, or just hang out and learn different perspectives about art.
Anyone with artistic talent or anyone who wants to grow their artistic talent is welcome and should stop by.
Future plans for the Warren include selective art shows of local artists that need a different venue to display large or small pieces. We will be considering organizing small art fairs in the parking lot and garage space during the warmer months. The Warren will have a dynamic website that will allow artists and others to network online based on art type (glass blowing, bronze sculpture etc.) We will work with already established Art organizations in the North Metro area to see if we can provide assistance either material and/or financial.
Currently in the small retail space, Duane Atter Jr, a nature and wildlife photographer, is showcasing some of his excellent work in the forms of high quality cards and photographs. All proceeds from the sales go to directly supporting The Warren – which is a non-profit limited liability corporation. In the near the future we will have an terminal where people can search the photographs of other photographers and artists from around the area with the option to print/frame the photos at The Warren
Just finished, a gallery space with large walls is available for visiting local artists for exhibitions. There is also a “dirty space”, a place where an artist can work in a space that can get messy or dirty (sculptors, cement workers, welders, etc.). Short term use for the “dirty space” is no charge.
The Warren is also proud to be the home of The Workhouse Theatre for their six part readers series and other events.
The Managing Director, Duane Atter can be reached at 612-703-9609 for availability of space. Duane is also onsite most days from 10am to 5pm during the week and can also be reached by email at thewarrenhabitat@comcast.net
